We can hear a really endearing Shar Pei snoring in this video. Younger Shar Peis snore more loudly than the older ones. Puppies are the best snorers. If you aren’t a heavy sleeper or don’t snore more loudly than your Shar Pei, it is not advised to keep them in your bedroom during sleep. Shar Peis also snort funnily and this can be mistaken for growling.
This sand skinned canine companion looks so adorable with its wrinkle face and loose skin just waiting to be squished and hugged. But these dogs have a trait that some people may find either endearing or simply irritating and bothersome: grunting and snorting. It is very common to hear the Shar Pei make these noises and there’s no way to have them stop.
But owners must be aware to what is normal grunting or snorting as to what isn’t. If the Shar Pei makes these sounds accompanied with cough and physical weaknesses such as a limp tail, non-responsiveness and fever, then better take them to the vet straight away. Pneumonia can strike the Shar Pei and only through a blood test and chest radiograph can it be detected. Causes of this may be bacteria such as E. Coli, Klebsiella and Bordetella. These can be fought off using antibiotics. So if there is something off with a Shar Pei’s behavior, it would be safe to have them checked.
